Iceland

Our time in Iceland, although far too short, was a whirlwind! We ventured to try and fit as much culture and sites into our limited stay, and left yearning to explore the beautiful island even more!

The first day was a bit rough as all starts are with very limited sleep, 36 hours without to be exact and a rainy day to boot but we made the best of it. We touristed about Reykjavik in a sleepy haze taking in the beautiful waterfront with the foggy mountains in the distance, graffiti street art, and all the unique and colorful architecture throughout.

After an early night in our cute Air BnB we woke for our South Iceland tour and it was the perfect sunny day. Driving through Iceland is the only way to truly experience the island and its vastly different terrains. Granted we knew we should of rented a vehicle from the beginning but with our already limited stay and five other countries we were heading to we knew it wasn’t in our budget this time around.

What we did on our South Iceland Tour?

  • Skogafoss waterfall: The beautiful second largest waterfall in Iceland, there are literally no words for how magnificent it is.

  • Sólheimajökull glacier: Breathtaking to experience seeing a glacier and yet so sad to see how far it has receded.

  • Vík í Mýrdal: Such a cute fishing town at the southern most point of Iceland surrounded by black sand beaches on one side and rolling green hills on the other.

  • Black sand beach Reynisfjara

  • Seljalandsfoss: Another waterfall close to Skogafoss that you can walk behind.

Must Eats

  • Elder: I cannot stop daydreaming about their Nutella crepe.. like seriously go get one! This was my favorite place in Reykjavik.

  • Reykjavik Chips: These fries are deliciously crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pairing it with the Chive Sauce is an absolute must.

  • Hot Dogs: I’m sure you have heard this before but Iceland hot dogs are no joke! They use upgraded condiments, wrap it in bacon, and add crunchy and fresh onions.. I mean come on.
