Amsterdam
Oh Amsterdam, you’re so lovely!
I have heard from many, and I can’t help but agree, that there is never enough time to explore all that Amsterdam has to offer.. Well then I guess I’ll just have to go back! This city has a special energy all of its own; as you take in the unique architecture, canals and endless stream of bicycles you’re fully enveloped in the bustle of the city.
Our first full day was beautifully sunny and warm! We intended on visiting the nearby city of Haarlem, however our plans changed and so instead we headed straight to Amsterdam Centraal. Since we had tickets for the Anne Frank Museum the next day we decided to check out the outdoor market places and the Rijksmuseum which was a perfect idea as the Rijks is a huge museum and we were there for 4 hours!
The second full day we experienced torrential rain for most of the day, and didn’t photograph much. We saw tons of the city as Amsterdam is very walk able including De Wallen (the Red Light District), Foodhallen, the Anne Frank Museum, and more.
Must Eats
Albert Cuyp Market: This outdoor market is the perfect place for favorite staples like stroopwafels and potterjes (delicious mini pancakes), you can also snag a Croque Monsieur and peruse the booths for unique finds.
Foodhallen: For the foodies, this indoor food market is culturally diverse and filled with high-quality artisan food. Try iberico ham for the first time or delicious vegetarian and vegan opinions with a crafted drink from the bar.
My Guide to Amsterdam
We only scratched the surface of Amsterdam, there are unlimited things to see and do but here are a few of my recommendations.
Fully immerse yourself by renting a bike and cruise through Vondelpark
Get lost in the Jordaan area, the negen straatjes (nine streets), and the trendy De Pijp
Stop into the outdoor markets like the Albert Cupy Market and the Bloemenmarkt
Rest your feet and catch a canal cruise
Take a day trip to the countryside and see a windmill
Avoid the rain and enjoy one of Amsterdam’s many museums including the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and the Anne Frank Museum. If you want to see the Anne Frank Museum, I can’t recommend this museum enough, make sure to purchase tickets are least a month or 2 in advance as they sell quickly and you may be waiting in line all day trying to get in.
