Easy DIY Christmas Tree Ornaments

While preparing to deck the Christmas tree this season I realized that many of my ornaments including an assortment of multi-pack mini baubles, former DIY projects that have seen better days and glitter bits from the last decade were just not feeling right anymore.

The new tree made it feel like a new start for ornaments were in order so I ventured a look online to see what I might like and realized that covering a 7.5 foot tree was going to get quite expensive, very quickly.

Thanks to Google, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube I found a couple of tutorials to help get me started, plus some ideas of my own to create a new entire set of ornaments for years to come. I did a quick inventory of the crafts I had at home and made a list of items needed before heading to my local Michaels for some supplies. I thought I’d share them with you as well incase you’re in the same boat and fancy getting crafty. Everything here is fairly easy to create!

I wish you and your family the happiest of holidays and a very Happy New Year!

SNOW GLOBE / FOLIAGE BAUBLES

I started off with a very simple one! Taking a clear glass or plastic bauble, remove the top and insert either real dried foliage like baby’s breath and/or a bit of pine. Use tweezers or whatever you have lying around to help guide where you’d like the foliage to sit. You can super glue them in as well if you’d like.

I personally used fake pine, berries and topped off with a bit of fake snow to give it a snow globe effect. Replace the top, tie off with a bit of ribbon or twine and ta-da you have a beautiful new ornament!

ANTIQUE DISTRESSED BAUBLES

I have been drawn to bronze and/or antique style ornaments this season and Drew from Lone Fox on YouTube recently shared this amazing idea for DIY Antique Distressed Christmas Ornaments!

HONEYCOMB PAPER BAUBLES

These were a lot more difficult than I was anticipating after watching the tutorial. It is time consuming but pop on some Christmas music or your favorite Christmas movie and you’ll be done in no time. I used a tutorial on YouTube from Mad Stuff with Rob and it is quite simple to follow.

ORIGAMI PAPER STARS

I love these origami stars as they so versatile! You could make them out of patterned or single colored wrapping paper, simple brown wrapping paper or origami paper like myself. I found this tutorial from Homemade Gifts Made Easy, there is a step by step YouTube video as well as a pentagon template to help make the process even easier. You can hang them individually or create a garland as well!

DRIED ORANGE GARLAND

Dried orange garlands have been incredibly popular the last couple years and I just love the pop of color, simplicity and the classic Christmas feel, I used the guide from Call Me Cupcake. I would suggest using a sharp knife and buying 3 firm oranges as ripe ones are, I found, a bit harder to cut in a straight line. They do take a couple days to dry out completely and are a bit time consuming to string but otherwise easy!

WOOD BEAD GARLAND

Just like dried orange garlands, wood bead garlands have also been incredibly popular the last couple years and both pair perfectly together! This year I did purchase 2 sets of Hearth and Hands Natural Wood Bead Garland and I am so glad I did as they matched perfectly with the sets I made 2 years ago even down to the design! I linked all 4 strands together and they covered the tree just enough and I could not be more happy!
